With all the stressors that life brings, add to that the stigmatism of mental health and seeking professional help in marginalized communities, it is very important to spread awareness to help break the barriers to receiving mental health assistance.
During Mental Health Month, EmpowHER Conversations is hosting a special roundtable conversation for young women ages 18-35, “Be MINDful: Is it All in My Mind?”, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 6:30 PM CT! Guest facilitators are Dr. Sheila Peters, PhD, Psychologist, and Dr. Mari Ross, M.A., LPC-MHSP.
The conversation will focus on mental health issues, common issues, like anxiety (social, general), family expectations or family problems, depression, loneliness, self-esteem, relationships/friendships, school, financial woes, and faith-based issues and concerns. The licensed professionals will help to facilitate the conversation and also provide tools, resources, and life skills, that can help young women ages 18-35 with these common issues. EmpowHER Conversations is a faith-based outreach program seeking to reach young women ages 17-35 who are questioning, “What’s next?” EmpowHER is a volunteer-driven program under the umbrella of Misha Maynard Ministries and in collaboration with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) & DEI Trainer/Practitioner Sheena Adams-Avery, CDT, CDP. Although the program is faith-based, this program is geared toward conversations centered around the relevant and lived experiences of young women. These conversations are raw and authentic and provide tools, resources, and life skills to young women of all races, ethnicities, religions, socio-economic levels, and abilities.
