Dear Friends,
As another school year approaches, a mix of emotions often comes with it: excitement, nervousness, dread, joy, and anticipation. Whether you’re a student, educator, or caregiver, the back-to-school season can feel like a rollercoaster. There’s the thrill of a fresh start, the uncertainty of change, the pressure of preparation, and the hope that this year will be even better than the last.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or just exhausted by the rush of it all, I encourage you to pause for a moment. Take a deep breath.. Exhale slowly. Remember, you are not alone, and how you feel is valid.
The beginning of the school year is more than just a date on the calendar. It marks the beginning of a new chapter. For some, it’s moving into a new grade or a new school. For others, it’s stepping into a new professional role or navigating new responsibilities at home. Change can be exciting, but it can also be stressful, especially when routines, expectations, and relationships are shifting all at once.
On top of that, the season comes with endless to-do lists, deadlines, and a flood of information. It can be difficult to keep up, let alone prepare emotionally. That’s why now, more than ever, it’s important to give yourself permission to slow down and ask: What kind of support do I need right now?
Support might look like visiting the school before or after the busy school day, building in a calming bedtime routine, or reflecting on last year’s experiences: what worked, what didn’t, and what you hope to change. For some families, it might mean finding childcare, transportation solutions, after-school programs, or simply reassurance that it’s okay not to have everything figured out on day one.
No matter your situation, one thing remains true: everyone is worthy of support.
Personally, I’ve always loved the back-to-school season. Fresh notebooks, new friends, exciting ideas. The possibilities feel endless. As the Education and Resource Coordinator for Tennessee Disability Pathfinder, I find joy in helping families and professionals navigate this season with confidence and clarity.
At Pathfinder, we know that returning to school can bring both opportunities and challenges, especially for students with disabilities and their families. That’s why we’re committed to providing practical, personalized, and easy-to-access resources. Whether you need after-school care, transportation assistance, support groups, or tips for building healthy routines, we’re here to help.
In this issue, you’ll find tools, statewide events, and back-to-school tips designed to empower your year ahead. And if you need one-on-one support, our Helpline is only a call or message away. We’ll work with you to connect you to the services that meet your needs.
Here’s to a strong, supported, and successful school year. We’re proud to walk alongside you through every transition and every triumph.
Warmly
Mimi Sanders, M.Ed.
