The Family Support Program in Tennessee is a program that many multilingual families know and trust. Families appreciate it because services are flexible and respond to real needs. An important part of the program is that families themselves help guide it through Local and District Councils.

One benefit the program provides is transportation. This can cover the cost of getting a person with a disability to day services, non-medical appointments, or activities. Families may use bus tickets, taxis, or personal transportation. After approval, families simply send receipts to their county coordinator for reimbursement.

In Davidson County, for example, the Family Support Program partners with Firestone on Nolensville Parkway for car repairs. This gives parents a safe and reliable option. Families may also use private transportation companies when needed.

Funds can also be used for vehicle modifications. This may include lifts, roof or interior changes, grab bars, wheelchair securement, safety belts, pedal adjustments, or remote switches, making vehicles safer for travel.

The Family Support Program is well known in multilingual communities because it is easy to apply, and families often receive benefits quickly once requirements are met.
