Resource Corner – Navigating Your Path to Aging

Tennessee Disability Pathfinder offers an extensive library of disability and aging adult care resources available at TNPathfinder.org.

Senior centers can be a great place to exercise, develop community, explore daily programming and activities, and they even help with transportation. Senior centers are a valuable resource and can be a source of support for older adults.

Alzheimer’s Tennessee has several support groups to assist those in the aging community that have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their families.

Support Group For Persons With A Diagnosis

Memory Café – meets virtually Tuesdays and Thursdays each week at 10 a.m. EST. For persons with a Diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment, Early Stage Alzheimer’s, Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Vascular Dementia or Lewy Body Dementia. Click Here for More Information.

 Virtual Family Support Groups

These groups meet weekly with an Alzheimer’s Tennessee staff member as the host.  Support partners who are family and friends are invited to join online or by phone at three different times during the week.

Monday 1PM CST / 2PM EST

Monday 6PM CST / 7PM EST

Friday 9AM CST/ 10AM EST

The East Tennessee Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program trains and certifies volunteers throughout East TN to advocate for residents in long-term care (nursing homes, assisted living centers, and residential fomes for the aged). This advocacy is achieved by making weekly/monthly visits to an assigned facility and assisting in the resolution of issues and complaints affecting residents.

TRAINING PROVIDED

For those interested, new training classes are offered for volunteers. The two-part trainings,  to be determined at a later date, will include breakfast and lunch. Additional training dates may be offered based on interest.
