Promoting Reading for Everyone
A refreshed look at Pathfinder’s reading tools and ongoing initiative
Books have the power to bring people together.
For years, Pathfinder has shared stories and tools to help families and readers connect through books. This piece gathers our earlier newsletter message, the Pathfinder Bookmark, and our reading initiative into a single, updated guide – no long lists here – just simple ways to make reading part of your routine this season.
Then: The original idea
Our early holiday pieces invited readers to share stories and make reading a priority during the busy season. The message was simple: reading together creates calm, sparks curiosity, and opens space for conversation.
Now: What we’ve added
We kept the original warmth and added practical tools: a printable Pathfinder Bookmark you can use at home, a short reading initiative with simple tips for families, and a single updated link to our curated reading picks (so you can explore book suggestions at your own pace).
Simple Tools to Make Reading Easier
Pathfinder now offers not one, but two bookmarks designed to support families in different ways. Each one has its own purpose, its own personality, and its own way of helping readers stay engaged.
The Pathfinder Bookmark is the classic version many families already know. It’s a simple, no-fuss tool you can print at home and tuck into any book. It works as a gentle reminder to slow down, take your time, and enjoy reading in small, steady moments. We also have a high-quality printed version that you can request via email at TNPathfindermedia@vumc.org.
The READ Bookmark is our newer addition, created for children or readers who like having small prompts or cues as they move through a book. It’s designed to give structure without pressure, quick reminders that guide conversation, spark interest, or help a young reader stay engaged. It pairs especially well with family reading time or classroom use.
Pathfinder’s Reading Initiative — Simple steps to read together
The Pathfinder reading initiative focuses on making reading part of everyday life. It’s a short list of actions families and caregivers can try, nothing formal or lengthy, just approachable steps that fit real life:
- Pick one small moment: ten minutes before bed, a quiet afternoon, or a shared snack time.
- Choose together: let the reader pick a book or a page to make it a shared choice.
- Make it sensory-friendly at home: low lighting, a favorite blanket, or a quiet corner can make reading comfortable.
- Talk about one thing: after a page or chapter, ask one simple question: “What was your favorite part?” and listen.
These steps are intentionally small. They’re meant to be repeatable and easy to keep doing long after the holidays.
Why this matters now
Reading connects people. During the holidays, when routines shift and schedules become busy, small reading moments offer stability and a chance for meaningful connection. Pathfinder’s bookmark and initiative exist to make those moments easier to find and keep.
