For many individuals and families, the journey with autism does not begin with a clear roadmap. It begins with questions.
What does this mean? Where do we start? Who can help?
Information is everywhere, but knowing what to do with that information is where many people get stuck. That’s where Tennessee Disability Pathfinder comes in.
At its core, Pathfinder exists to bridge the gap between information and real-world support. We are not a service provider; we are a trusted resource hub, helping individuals and families across Tennessee connect to the services, programs, and opportunities that fit their unique needs.
This work becomes even more important during Autism Awareness Month, when awareness is high, but clarity is often still out of reach.
Pathfinder’s approach is simple, but powerful: meet people where they are, listen to what they need, and guide them toward resources that make sense for their lives.
That guidance is strengthened through ongoing collaboration with organizations that are deeply rooted in the autism community. Through partnerships with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VKC) and VKC’s Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD), Pathfinder helps extend the reach of research-based information and practical tools, ensuring that families and professionals have access to reliable, up-to-date resources.
But information alone is not enough. Connection matters. Experience matters. Community matters.
That’s why Pathfinder also engages in opportunities that bring people together in meaningful ways. Our recent collaboration with Little Blue Theatre Company and their sensory-friendly production of “All Smiles” is one example of what real-world support can look like. Events like these create spaces where children and families can show up as they are, where movement, sound, and expression are welcomed, and where experiences are designed with the community in mind.
In addition to partnerships and events, Pathfinder’s day-to-day work continues to center around direct connection. Through our Navigators, individuals and families can ask questions, talk through their situations, and receive guidance that is tailored, not generic. Whether someone is looking for diagnostic services, therapy options, educational supports, or community programs, our team works to point them in the right direction.
We also engage with the community through social media, outreach efforts, trainings, and shared resources, helping raise awareness of opportunities, highlight important conversations, and connect people to what’s available across the state.
All of this reflects the heart of this month’s theme: moving from information to real-world support.
Because awareness is important, but access is essential.
And having information is helpful, but knowing what to do next is what truly makes a difference.
At Tennessee Disability Pathfinder, we are here to help turn questions into answers, and answers into action.
