A Gift that Keeps on Giving – Then & Now

A glittery gold gift box tied with a bright red ribbon hangs on a decorated Christmas tree. The tree is adorned with white paper ornaments and warm string lights. The Tennessee Disability Pathfinder logo appears in the upper left corner.

How the Devices for Autism program continues to turn used tech into opportunity and purpose in 2025.

Take a moment to revisit one of Pathfinder’s most impactful stories on the Devices for Autism program. First shared in 2024, this initiative turned old electronics into hope, jobs, and a brighter future. We’re resurfacing it now with updated context and renewed clarity, so more Tennesseans can discover how easy it is to make a lasting difference.

🎯 What the Program Is: Then & Now

THEN (2024)

  • Donated electronics (phones, tablets, laptops, cords)
  • Free prepaid shipping label
  • FedEx drop-off, no cost to donor
  • Recycling + job creation for adults with autism
  • Environmentally friendly reuse over disposal

NOW (2025 Update)

  • Clear guidance on acceptable device condition
  • Data-destruction guarantee before recycling
  • Updated donation portal & streamlined process
  • Optional alternative: local reuse programs (like TTAP)
  • Same mission – tech reuse + meaningful employment

🔁 How You Can Participate (2025 Edition)

  1. Gather working devices: tablets, phones, laptops, cords.
  2. Request a free shipping label from the donation portal.
  3. Print, package, and ship via FedEx (label prepaid).
  4. That’s it, you’ve donated and contributed to a purpose that lasts.

Prefer a local option? Contact the Tennessee Technology Access Program (TTAP) for available reuse/technical assistance resources.

✅ Why It Still Matters

Recycling used electronics keeps devices out of landfills, extends their useful life, and supports job opportunities. By giving a device, you’re offering more than a box. You’re giving hope and purpose.
