Advocating through Art: Rainbow Mosho’s Artistic Journey

You change the world by being yourself – Yoko Ono

If you haven’t seen her work yet, you will soon. Rainbow Mosho, born in Athens, Greece as Thomais Moshopoulos, is a 13-year-old Tennessean on the autism spectrum with a gift that is easy to see. Her artwork is captivating and powerful– telling a story through vibrant colors, designs, and layering– but her talent doesn’t stop there. Not only is she a talented artist, whose work has been exhibited on a billboard here in Nashville as the Arts and Business Council’s Artist of the Week, included on a spacesuit (Yes– you read that right!), in the Art of Healing Expo, in a local middle school, and in exhibits throughout the USA and Japan, she is also an author, entrepreneur, illustrator, and still managing to add to her resume.

Rainbow was just under 3 years old when she was diagnosed with autism. Six years later she was diagnosed with dyslexia, making learning to read a challenging task. Her artistic persona, “Rainbow Mosho,” came to light as her love for color and fun developed. It was through her artistic persona that Rainbow helped herself learn to read and found the inspiration for her future work.

“I have a voice. I want to be included in any conversation that wishes to influence my life. I want kids to find hope in my books. I could not read. I had major challenges with dyslexia. I created my own alphabet – I needed visual support to help me understand how letters combined formed words. My book Rainbow Rabbit Meets Oracle the Alphabet Creature is the result.”

In 2020, Rainbow co-authored and illustrated What I Gained and Lost During COVID-19 and created her COVID-19 Art Series to express the discovery of life and death, handling PTSD, greater meaning of family and deep wisdom. In the following year, Rainbow co-authored and illustrated two more books– Rainbow Rabbit Meets Oracle the Alphabet Creature and Balloons. Rainbow will release her 4th book, written and fully illustrated by herself– Adventures at the Zoo– in March 2022.

In addition to her work as an author and illustrator, Rainbow is the host of the Twitter Space NFT Kids- We are the Future. Her digital art was included in the first #NFT Kids Calendar, organized by NFT Kids Magazine, and has been exhibited in California, sponsored by SuperWorldApp. While it is clear that Rainbow has found success in all her endeavors, in many ways, her compassion for others will always be her greatest gift. She has donated NFTs and money to both Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helping thoaw who need it most and encouraging kids to find hope.

From the Tennessee Disability Pathfinder team to you, Rainbow, cheers to a wonderful 2022! We can’t wait to watch you change the world by being yourself.
