Advocacy starts with knowing where to turn, what to ask, and how to keep track of the information that matters most. This month’s quick tips are designed to help you use Pathfinder’s tools to find the right advocacy resources, prepare for conversations, and stay organized as you move forward.
When you’re speaking up for someone you love, or for yourself, starting with clear information makes every step easier. Here’s a simple way to use TNPathfinder.org to find the right support quickly.
✨ Start With Pathfinder’s Resource Directory
Go to tnpathfinder.org and select “Start Your Journey.”
This takes you straight into the Resource Directory, where you can search by need: things like school support, health, housing, employment, daily living, and more.
✨ Use Filters to Make Your Search Faster
On the left side, you can narrow options by:
- Location (county or region)
- Age range
- Type of disability or support needed
This helps you focus only on services that actually fit your situation.
✨ Choose a Few Providers to Contact
When you open a listing, you’ll see details like a description, services offered, and contact information.
Pick three providers that look promising and write down:
- Who to call
- What they offer
- Any notes or first impressions
You can write as many down as you want, but three is a great starting point.
✨ Prepare a Few Simple Questions
Here are easy questions that open the door to good information:
- What services do you offer?
- What do I need to get started?
- Are there forms, documents, or steps I should know about?
- Where are you located, and how do I contact you? You can also see this information on Pathfinder’s website.
✨ Keep Your Notes in One Place
Use your phone’s notes app, a notebook, a folder, anything that helps you keep track of:
- Calls
- Appointments
- Next steps
- What each provider told you
Advocacy is easier when the details stay organized.
✨ Try the Keyword Search Too
If you’re not sure what category your need fits into, the search bar at the top right works great.
Try words like “wheelchair,” “transportation,” “caregiver,” “therapy,” or anything else related to your situation. Toggling the button to the right to use AI with your search can be helpful, too.
✨ Need More Guidance?
And if you’d rather talk to a real person, you can always call the Pathfinder team at 1‑800‑640‑4636 or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the website.
