Navigating the 2025 Transportation Planning Grant
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Office of Community Transportation has opened applications for the 2025 Transportation Planning Grant (TPG), a funding opportunity aimed at helping Tennessee cities and counties improve their transportation systems. This grant focuses on supporting the development of plans that enhance mobility, traffic flow, safety, and overall transportation efficiency.
Supporting Community Mobility
The TPG program provides communities with the resources needed to address transportation challenges and create innovative solutions. Projects funded by the grant may include bicycle and pedestrian plans, complete streets initiatives, and other efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and operations.
Grant Details
The TPG offers funding of up to $250,000, with an 80% federal, 10% state, and 10% local match requirement. Distressed and at-risk counties, as defined by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) for FY26, qualify for a 0% local match, ensuring that communities with limited resources can still access this opportunity.
Eligible Plans
Communities may apply for funding to develop a variety of transportation plans, including:
- Corridor Studies
- Bicycle & Pedestrian Plans
- Complete Streets Plans
- Transportation System Management & Operations (TSMO) Plans
- Community Mobility Plans
- Resurfacing and Striping Plans
Creative and innovative transportation planning ideas are also welcomed.
Resources and Deadlines
TDOT hosted an informational webinar on September 10, 2025. The webinar provided an overview of the grant, eligibility requirements, and application process. A recording of the webinar will be made available on the TDOT website.
