Dear Pathfinder Community,

As we welcome the month of May, we’re reminded of the many meaningful milestones it holds. May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness MonthOlder Americans Month, and includes National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day—all powerful reminders of the importance of caring for our emotional and mental well-being across all ages and stages of life.

At Pathfinder, we remain committed to walking alongside families, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities as a trusted resource and guide. You may have noticed, we’ve recently changed our name. However, our dedication to serving you with compassion, knowledge, and community spirit remains the same. As we approach the end of our fiscal year, our team is reflecting on what we’ve accomplished and how we can continue to support you even better in the months ahead.

This month, we’re highlighting the often-overlooked topic of mental health in our communities, especially in places where stigma can still make it hard to talk about. In some families, especially where traditions or beliefs shape how health is viewed, mental health may not be discussed openly. But the truth is: taking care of our mental well-being is just as important as taking care of our physical health, and help is available.

Through my work and conversations on mental health panels, I’ve seen how difficult it can be for people to reach out for help. Yet, when we ignore our mental health, it can lead to deeper struggles like anxiety, depression, or emotional burnout, especially for caregivers. That’s why I want to remind you that taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s essential.

Here are a few small ways to begin taking care of your mental well-being each day:

  1. Do something that brings you joy

  2. Spend time outdoors or with a pet

  3. Take a calming shower or bath

  4. Ask for help when you need it

  5. Connect with friends or family

  6. Limit screen time or take a break from social media

  7. Listen to your favorite music

  8. Sit quietly in nature

  9. Practice kind and positive self-talk

  10. Celebrate small wins. Every step matters

These moments may seem simple, but they build resilience and restore balance. Let’s take one day at a time, and remember, you’re never alone. Pathfinder is here for you. Whether you need resources or referrals, we’re ready to support you. Call us, email us, or reach out on social media. We’re here to help you find your path forward.

Best,
