Tennessee Serves Neighbors

In the Winter of 2020, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville launched a new program, Tennessee Serves Neighbors. This program will expand Catholic Charities’ successful Family Resources Center model over the next two years to more counties that are part of the Diocese of Nashville. Counties served in this program include Montgomery, Maury, Marshall, Bedford, and Coffee counties.

Tennessee Serves Neighbors, the program’s official name, is the largest expansion in Catholic Charities’ history. All five centers are now open with full-time staff members ready to help individuals and families with a wide range of social services. All staff live in the communities they serve so they have a finger on the pulse of community needs and can customize services based on what is needed locally. Some of the needs the team will be able to assist with include:

  • Rent and mortgage payments
  • Hunger Relief
  • Utilities Payment Assistance
  • Housing challenges
  • Individual and family counseling with licensed professionals
  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Help applying for government programs
  • Job readiness classes
  • Workforce skills training

The primary goal of a family resource center is to provide a range of services at a single location, so that our neighbors don’t have to visit multiple sites or travel to Nashville to get assistance. Catholic Charities has nearly two decades’ experience operating similar centers in North Nashville and South Nashville.

We are grateful to the State of Tennessee for providing the base funding to make this important expansion possible, and we are delighted by how much the local communities have embraced Tennessee Serves Neighbors.

Five more family resource centers are on the drawing board, starting with Grundy County in November 2021.
