The children are headed back to school, so parents are out shopping for all the clothes and supplies their students need. And don’t forget about the food. Good nutrition is a very important part of your child having a successful school year.
This year there’s some good news to help with the prices on groceries. During the period beginning at 12:01 am on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 and ending Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 11:59 pm, food and food ingredients are exempt from sales tax. Yep you heard it! No tax on food! So enjoy purchasing nutritious foods for your children’s lunches and your home for the next two months.
Sales of prepared food, dietary supplements, candy, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco are not included in items exempt during this period.
To find out more check out the information from the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
