Dance is for everyBODY

Black background image with the word "DANCE," in vibrant red dots. In front of the word is a photo of a woman with long brown hair and wearing a long sleeve blue top and black bottoms on her knees with her arms stretched out to her side. She is smiling at a female child in front of her wearing a pink helmet, black leotard, pink skirt, white tennis shoes and black leg braces. The child whose back is showing is holding her arms out to her side too signifying a dance move.

“Dance is the joy of movement and the heart of life.” – Susan Joli

Able Arts Therapy, LLC. provides a holistic approach, combining private dance and occupational therapy services to help clients live their lives to the fullest physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. Serving the Middle Tennessee area the program provides an adapted and inclusive perspective to dance. Through their mobile services, they can bring the magic of dance to everyone, helping them meet therapeutic goals and thrive in their everyday lives!

Dance, music, and art are powerful tools that complement traditional therapy. Able Arts Therapy offers these tools in a convenient and inclusive fashion. Founder, Hannah Mathews, OTD, OTR/L is a licensed Occupational Therapist, dance teacher, and business owner based out of Nashville, TN. She has studied the effects of dance therapy and developed the inclusive dance program at The Nashville Ballet.

Hannah saw firsthand the need for more inclusive providers and opportunities in Middle Tennessee and desired to bring the joy of dance to anyone who wants to discover it while meeting therapeutic goals along the way. With more than five years of experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, along with extensive training and consulting for other inclusive programs, Hannah launched Able Arts Therapy so that she could work individually with clients who are seeking to meet their therapeutic goals through dance. Hannah has specific experience working with clients who have experienced neuro-related injuries (i.e. stroke, spinal cord, brain injury) as well as developmental disabilities of all ages (i.e. Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy).

Every service at Able Arts Therapy is designed to help clients achieve specific goals, gain functional independence, and live their lives to the fullest! Able Arts Therapy also provides private wellness-based lessons that complement traditional therapy services well, as it is not direct OT services but from a safe, therapeutic perspective.

“Our heart with Able Arts Therapy is to provide an outlet for dancers to express themselves, and grow in strength, coordination, balance, and confidence,” said Hannah Matthews, owner.  “When we combine the power of art with therapeutic goals, we see so much growth and development.”

One parent wrote, “We spend so many hours doing therapy and missing out on casual fun, we are grateful for this inclusive opportunity that combines both!” Another parent expressed how exciting it was to watch her daughter learn how to propel her wheelchair with more strength and confidence through the motivation of dance.

Dance is a beautiful and artistic outlet and everyBODY should have access to it.
