WorkAbleTN: Meet Us Again for the First Time

The man is waving at the screen with his left hand and his right hand is on the keys of the laptop. Above his head are 3 white stars and to his left is the WorkAbleTN branded graphic on top of red and gray color blocks. To the left of the image is a yellow color block with orange arrows at the top and red dots at the bottom.

You may recognize WorkAbleTN, by our former name: Benefits to Work.

For over 20 years, the Benefits to Work team has shown Tennesseans with disabilities how they can earn more money, take the fear out of the benefits process, and replace that fear with workable solutions.

Since 2000, the counselors at Benefits to Work have helped tens of thousands of Tennesseans better understand their possibilities and welcomed thousands more in group presentations. We’re proud of the success the Benefits to Work program has accomplished; and thrilled to now be WorkAbleTN.

Our program rebranded in 2022, and our new tagline “A Passion for Possibilities” says it all.

We know it’s not just about finding a job. It’s about self-empowerment. It’s about gaining independence, and building relationships in the community. It’s about making our own decisions and choosing our own path. It’s about finding workable solutions.

For two decades, we have rolled with thousands of Tennesseans with disabilities on their journey. Informing them. Supporting them. Taking the fear out of a complex benefits process, and turning it into determined self-reliance.

WorkAbleTN does more than just Social Security Work Incentives Assistance and Planning (WIPA) services. We collaborate with partners to help our clients think creatively to find the solutions they seek, address employment and benefits challenges, and encourage self-advocacy.

Clients are always in the driver’s seat. Always. But, sitting shotgun, we help individuals understand how working could make sense for them, and improve their quality of life.

WorkAbleTN also helps Tennessee businesses understand the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities. WorkAbleTN facilitates Tennessee’s Businesses for the Better program; recognizing and applauding businesses with smart and inclusive approaches to business. With demands for talent at all-time highs, and over one million Tennesseans experiencing some type of disability; hiring people with disabilities isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s the smart thing.

If knowledge is power, WorkAbleTN is a powerful partner. We are a trusted partner because we live in the communities we serve. We partner with and are aware of, the resources available in the state of Tennessee. We’re proud of the successes our staff has accomplished but even prouder watching clients gain their chosen paths to independence.

Check out Michael’s story to see what can happen when you work with WorkAbleTN to think creatively about ways to effectively achieve workable goals.

“I lived in public housing I could not make ends meet with social security disability benefits (SSDI). I explored every possibility and even landed a job offer I was afraid to accept. I got help from WorkAbleTN counselors. They were always professional and kind people. They walked with me (and my family) through all of my concerns about losing benefits. They helped me with the confidence to take the job. Now, I am working full-time earning a substantial salary, living in a new home, bought a new car, have traveled across the country, and been on five cruises. I have a full and rewarding life. I am thankful for WorkAbleTN counselors who continue to provide assistance, direct me to resources, and have done so for thirteen (13) years!”
